Breezy Bunnies

Will rain spoil little brother’s breezy day?

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

It’s springtime in Carrot Cake Park, and these two breezy bunnies are ready to have fun—playing with their friends, picnicking with ducklings, and cloud-watching along the way. And should the weather change, big sister is all prepared with her umbrella. This bouncy rhyming tale with its charming illustrations reveals their splendid day, which may just get a little bit soggier than they ever imagined!

What’s the matter?
Oh, I see.
We can fix that—
Come with me.

Ahgoo Review
May 27, 2011

This is one of many interactive books put out by PicPocket Books. To turn the pages of the book simply slide a finger from right to left or vice versa to go back a page. The words light up red as the narrator reads them. There are also hidden sounds buried within the images. A tap here and a duck quacks, a click there and a bird chirps.

Story: 5
The story was really lovely. It was about two bunnies that were looking for some fun on a nice Spring day. The story rhymes and has a nice flow to it. Young children will enjoy the casual rhythm that goes nicely with the playful bunnies. The hidden touch points are exciting for little ones to discover as well.

Graphics: 5
The illustrations were very nice. They reminded me of books I read as a child. I liked how the screen would pan over to reveal more of the scene. The scenes were all very busy with lots for children to look at. One thing I liked in particular were the hats in the shop scene, they had ears built in just for bunnies! I thought that was very clever.

Sound: 5
The story is narrated by a child and I think that it was very well read. The sound effects on the touch points were also good. I like the quacking duck and tweeting bird.

Interface: 4
I had some difficulty with the interface. I didn’t know how to progress to the next screen at first. To turn the pages slide your finger from side to side. Some of the pages pan on their own to show more of the scene. Most of the pages also have words that appear but some pages have no words at all. I was a bit unsure of when to manually turn the page in some areas. An indicator of when to proceed or what to do in certain areas would have been helpful.

Overall it is a cute story for children to enjoy. It is a great seasonal tale to enjoy year after year at the onset of Spring.

The Overall Ahgoo Review rating is: 4.75

My Thoughts

My toddler loved this story when I read it to her and when she took over control of the iPod she set out to touch everything in the picture to see if it made noise and she would giggle when she did. I am so amazed with technology today, with things being so interactive, just makes it that much more fun for my kids. Nothing will replace your own imagination when reading but book apps are a very close second. Breezy Bunnies was a fun story and I recommend it and PicPocket Books to everyone!

This app brings the book to life. Great way to enjoy books with the kids!

Beautiful!

My kids and I enjoyed this story. The pictures are great on the iPod Touch screen. At first, we didn’t know about the audio hotspot on the animals, but that’s clearly written in the description. Anyway, they were really fun. As a mom, I liked that the words were highlighted as the story was read. Great for reading along! My 5-year-old says he wants to read it again.

Fun book

My kids enjoyed this book and have “re-read” it several times. My youngest enjoyed the hot spots. The illustrations are bright and engaging. I think this is important on such a little screen. Good job.

Great App for Both My Kids
by MGroovy

Both my kids, age 4 and 6, love the books and ask for them every chance they get. The older one loves to read them and the younger one uses the audio reader. I really like it when they snuggle up together over a Picpocket Book. Thank you also for the great choice of authors and titles. You know just what I want to feed my kids, and they eat it up with relish. Please keep them coming.

Delightful in every way!

Carrie’s Rambles: PicPocket Books, Review & Giveaway

Recently, I was contacted by Lynette from PicPocket Books asking if I would be interested in doing a review for them. I headed on over and checked out the site and then told her YES! I don’t have little ones of my own, but I do have a 10 year old niece and friends with children, so I felt I would be able to do a good job for her!

PicPocket Books offer a selection of favorite children’s books that can be downloaded to your IPhone or Ipod touch. Children are able to look, listen, touch and learn with these unique apps!

“Now kids can enjoy their favorite books from your iPhone! Forget the playstations, game consoles and DVDs, our mobile picture books will entertain and educate your child in the car, plane, train and more.”

I was able to download a selection of three stories and two math apps (they are partnering with a developer who creates math apps). I’m not sure what I really expected but I was pleasantly surprised. A.R. (my niece) and I really enjoyed the stories, particularly Breezy Bunnies and Papa Gatto! While they were a little young for her, she still enjoyed reading them once I figured out that you can adjust the settings. For the younger children, the books read aloud the story, highlighting each word in red as it is spoken, helping them learn by association and auto turning the pages as needed. I discovered I could turn all those settings off and AR could read the story on her own, peruse the pictures and then turn the pages when she was ready! Definitely something she enjoyed, and let me tell you, the artwork for Papa Gatto is amazing, the colors are so vibrant! Breezy Bunnies was a sweet story and Oh, Crumps! a little humorous. All of them had clear graphics, no freezing and were a joy to read! We all know the kids can’t wait to get their hands on your IPhone or Ipod, and here is an app they can use! I think these would be GREAT for car trips!
